Homage to Shy Dogs

As I often do now that I have had the wonderful experience of adopting Tully, I was perusing the SF  SPCA Dog adoptions and found this lovely description of the special nature of a 'shy' dog. This was for Teddy, a 10 pound chihuaha in need of a special home.
Teddy is a bashful little 10 pound guy. There is something beautiful about shyness, even though in our culture shyness is not considered a virtue. But an unflinching soul-baring, confessional attitude quickly becomes boring. It is like trees without shadows. Shy dogs have long shadows, where they keep much of their beauty hidden from intruders’ eyes. Shy dogs remind us of the mystery of life that cannot be simply explained or expressed. They invite us to reverent and respectful friendships and to a wordless being together in love. Shy dogs are not for everybody. They need caretakers who have patience and perseverance. Teddy would do best in a quiet adult home with a secure yard. He would benefit from having another dog in the household, but this is not a requirement. A confident well-trained dog will help him relax and show him the ropes. If you’re a compassionate person who’s looking for a slow-burning, everlasting love, meet Teddy today.
Long shadows. Patience. Perseverance.
Invaluable qualities in our busy lives.
